Gail : WIOA Adult Program

September 10, 2024

Gail was enrolled in the WIOA Adult program in November of 2021 with the goal of becoming a Medical Assistant. With the help of her Career Planner, Gail was able to enroll in the Medical Assistant program at Northwood Technical College. Gail’s Career Planner ensured that she had the school textbooks she needed and that her tuition and fees were paid on time.  Throughout school Gail worked part-time as a personal care aide. However, she fell into financial hardship when her husband was laid off. Gail and her family fell behind on rent payments and were facing eviction. Gail’s Career Planner was able to intervene and provide funding for her past due rental payments. Maintaining stable housing enabled Gail to graduate with a Medical Assistant associate’s degree. The Career Planner also was able to fund Gail’s Medical Assistant license fees. Now that Gail is a certified medial assistant, she is earning a higher wage, and has greater financial independence.
