Lori's Story

February 15, 2023

Lori enrolled in the WIOA OSY program in February 2022 based on parenting. Lori was initially interested in pursuing an associate degree in legal studies via the Paralegal program at CVTC. However, she later decided she wanted to pursue a CNA license as she enjoyed her employment as a personal care aide and wanted to continue in that field. She completed the CNA course through CVTC in July 2022 and is currently scheduling her skill and knowledge exam for licensure. WIOA assisted with tuition, textbooks, uniform items, fees, and mileage reimbursement to help her complete the course. WIOA will also assist with them exam fees once she has scheduled her skill and knowledge assessments. When she achieves her licensure, her current workplace will transition her from personal care aide to CNA and she will get a wage increase from $14.86/hr to $20.00/hr. Lori is also interested in continuing her education and is considering either pursuing an LPN Technical Diploma or an RN associate degree.
